Pizza Round – A sustainable packaging innovation for the most popular fast-food on earth
In many of our previous blogposts, we have emphasized that pizza box is one of the most difficult paper packages to recycle due to the grease and left-over after disposal. Unfortunately, this kind of convenient food is so popular that people rarely want to trade-off their delicious meal for sustainability.
Good news is World Centric – a company who provides the compostable products for food industry has come up with an idea of Pizza Round. This new pizza box is tree-free which is not made up of virgin wooden fiber but from sugarcane (80%) and bamboo (20%). Due to its round and easy-to-close design, we could avoid material waste and labour waste used to fold the normal pizza box, which is, in our opinion, truly a sustainable packaging innovation for pizza industry. It is stated to absorb the grease from pizza better than paper box. The only questions are the recyclability of its material and the cost for mass production.
Mushroom packaging – A sustainable packaging innovation promoted by IKEA
The mushroom packaging is created by Ecovative Design – a company specialized in mushroom-based products. But sustainable breakthrough was also thanks to IKEA, who decided to apply this great innovation for their store chain.
Fungus fiber will be grown from other agricultural waste and bind the waste into the solid shape. It is then dried to make into packaging for IKEA products. Mushroom packaging will decompose after several weeks so that it doesn’t harm our environment like plastic debris. It is truly a wonderful sustainable packaging innovation.
Eco-envelope from Botta Packaging – promoted by Esselunga
We would love to humbly introduce our Eco-envelope product which is now widely used by Italian supermarket chain – Esselunga. Our Eco-envelope is made out of 100% recycled paper which is eco-friendly in both production and disposal treatment. But above all, we would like to honor our partner – Esselunga with their effort to apply our innovation in a wider scale.
Esselunga have used our corrugated envelope for bottles and eggs in their online deliveries to avoid plastic bubble wrap. With single eco-envelope, the packaging layers are also reduced to meet our sustainable target.
Thanks to the ongoing effort in sustainable packaging innovation, we can expect the reduction of plastics waste in packaging industry.
