RECOVERY AS PART WASTE MANAGEMENT

In addition to the traditional R's, an additional R has been added, increasing the total number of R's to a total of four. The original three waste management principles - reduce, reuse, and recycle, with the addition of recovery as a fourth principle. Trash may be cleaned up and recycled by using methods such as reducing, reusing, and recycling. This may result in the recovery of energy or materials from waste. Thermal and biological processes may be utilized to generate a wide range of goods, including electricity, heat, fuel, and compost, among others. All of these benefits may be achieved via the use of research, innovation, and creativity. It is possible to use regenerated or recovered energy and materials for many diverse uses once they have been recycled.

Unless properly managed, waste items that were meant for disposal are no longer considered trash but rather sources of resources for industry and environmental conservation. It is hoped that this would help to strengthen the idea of Circular Economy, which is now getting a great deal of attention.

To achieve this, waste materials may either be disposed of in landfills, where they can biodegrade naturally, or they can be treated using extra processes. Also, the use of thermochemical technology, which encompasses the processes of gasification, pyrolysis, combustion, and liquefaction as well as other methods of energy recovery. It is predicted that as a result of everything going to waste, fewer items would go to waste without gaining any benefits from them. Due to this, along with the three R's (reduce, reuse, and recycle), it is important to give equal consideration to the idea of adding a fourth R. To prevent having a detrimental effect on the environment, we should proceed with care while carrying out this process.

THE 3R'S

Manage and cut down on trash using the 3R's: Reduce, reuse, andrecycle. These are great for conserving natural resources, energy, and money. If these three R's were eliminated, the earth would no longer be able to sustain human life, as well as other species, flora, and water. While the last R, recycling, has received a lot of attention, all three are needed. Fewer products will be recycled if the first two methods, reducing and reusing, are followed. Environmental protection requires a corporate worldview and households.

To reduce implies utilizing fewer resources and thus reducing waste. With this technique, the environment can be kept clean while maintaining it. Think of it this way: Solving the issue at its source prevents both waste and extra recycling. A company may create fewer trash-generating goods, while families can also purchase products that assist reduce waste.

To reusea product implies finding new methods to utilize without disposing of it. Reuse conserves both natural resources and money. This category induces innovation and creativity. In terms of CSR, businesses should be creative in designing products that may be reused by their customers. A good example is items that are broken should be repaired instead of discarding them if they are repairable. Reusing carrying bags is another good idea.

Recyclingis the process of old materials to create new ones. To succeed, one must be innovative, creative, and invest in research. Buying recyclable goods is another method for families to support the sustainability of the environment. When consumers see a recycling mark on an object, they may assume it was made from recycled materials or is recycled itself. Manufacturing companies can help by educating customers and producing recyclable products.

We must ensure that the three R's are followed (reduce, reuse, and recycle). We're doing well, but we can do better!

ECO-FRIENDLY PACKAGING FOR THE SEAFOOD MARKET

Eco-Friendly Packaging for the Seafood Market

The seafood market industry is undergoing a lot of innovation in its packaging for more eco-friendly ones. The packages used for this industry include Polyester bags, sleeves, polyethylene wrap or bags, Polyvinylchloride, Cellophane waxed paper, and cartons. Among all these, there has been an interesting shift happening towards paper and cardboard packaging which are very good candidates for renewable and recyclable activities. There is much research and innovation being than into this field

An award for innovation in fish bag packaging was given during the CONAI 2020 Prevention Call, and the award has been entered into Comieco's Best Pack database as a result. The new packaging uses a paper bag wrapped in a metalized HDPE film designed to be manually removed from the cellulosic material.

One more award-winning innovation was that discovered at the Worldstar Packaging Awards 2021 was an Australian packaging product called Lobster Protector, which is used in lobster packaging. The product is plastic-free, recyclable, biodegradable, renewable, and environmentally friendly.

Recyclable and renewable paper packaging offers different innovative opportunities in this age of circular economy. It can replace all of the materials that have been traditionally and historically used for packaging.

As a result, the majority of companies in this sector should accept this mandate and devote themselves to investing more in this innovative idea and conducting high-level research and development to come up with the best possible solutions for their products and the environment.  Some firms have already gotten underway with this idea indicated earlier, and other businesses can begin as well.

THE IMPORTANCE OF RECYCLED CONTENT

Products made with recycled content are very important for two main reasons. First, goods made with recycled content use less energy and resources than those that are made with virgin content. Specifically, this is the case for products made from paper and plastic. According to Maine Resource Recovery Association Executive Director Katherine Guerin, for every ton of recycled paper waste, 17 trees, 4200-kilowatt hours of electricity, 7000 gallons of water, and 3 cubic yards of landfill space are saved. Using items made from recycled materials saves an immense amount of energy with corresponding savings in greenhouse gas emissions.

The second reason why it is important to use recycled content is that there is a strong business that needs to be expanded more and more. The market strength for recycled material is what lies behind implementing the use of recycled material. Recycling works if the recycling merchants can make a profit. This only happens if buyers are eager to purchase materials made from recycled content. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen this type of business to make it established in the market.

However, there are problems associated with certain materials, such as paper. Recycled paper is inherently weaker than virgin paper. Each following stage of a material's life leads to the fibers being shorter and thinner, and therefore weaker. However, this does not affect the making of the packaging. E-commerce packaging is, in fact, suitable for using recycled content.

BOTTA Packaging, thanks to the use of corrugated cardboard, represents the perfect combination of using material made of recycled content and offering customers a high-quality product. In fact, BOTTA Packaging's products are recyclable and sustainable but have characteristics such as strength, convenience, and excellent design.
