Consumers of the 21st century are more and more considering about sustainability when making their shopping decision. But all research, development or innovations toward eco-friendly products might cost brands more than the conventional ones. Research saying about consumer’s behaviour toward sustainability

In early 2019, CGS – a company specialized in business applications and outsourcing services has released a report on their Retail and Sustainability Survey in US. Their survey showed that, American consumers are willing to pay more for sustainability. Two third of people joining the research claim that they would consider about eco-friendliness when going shopping and 47 percent of surveyed people are willing to pay more for the sustainable products.

In Europe, FMCG Gurus – a company providing market research and insight into consumer attitudes and behaviours across the food, beverage and supplement markets have made a similar research in the same year.  The result shows that more than a half of European consumers in their study are happy to pay a premium price for sustainable goods. The research also revealed about the consumer’s trend: shoppers are changing their shopping and diet habits to become more eco-friendly such as buying the local products from farms and reducing the dairy products.

How brands can promote their corporation social responsibility?

According to Paul Magel, President of Business Applications division, CGS, “to create a loyal customer base, brands must be transparent about the materials and development behind their products.”
