Every good steward takes care and responsibility for what has been entrusted in his care. We have been placed as caretakers and stewards of the earth. The little we can do is to help protect and conserve the environment. One way to do that is starting from our homes. This post is going to list at least 8 ways in which we can be environmentally friendly in our homes. If every household can do this, the whole earth and everything in it would be well preserved and conserved for the future generation.
1. Creating a small garden in your background. This can provide us with food, easing the strain on world production. It will also act as a supply of oxygen to offset carbon emissions. Your kids will learn about sustainability while having fun as a family.
2. Use energy-saving bulbs (LED), and turn off lights and appliances when not in use. This will decrease electricity costs while saving energy globally.
3. If possible, do laundry manually, switch using the washing machine and dryer. Especially in the summer nowadays we can do this to save the energy consumed by the washing and drying machines.
4. Having your recycling and composting bin. Separating waste by each household would help the waste management team to also do their jobs efficiently. This will also teach the younger kids what to do when they grow up.
5. You can also have your composting system in the house. Your food waste and kitchen scraps can be used as compost for your garden and flowers.
6. Use reusable bottles in the house and do away with plastic and disposable kitchenware as much as possible.
7. Use reusable shopping bags. We will recommend paper bags and other sustainable packages that can be recycled and biodegrade.
8. Try going vegetarian at least once a week as meat production contributes to gas emissions.
Let’s go green, starting from our homes!
